Six 2020 Honda Models Earn IIHS Top Safety Ratings
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has given six Honda models Top Safety Pick ratings. These ratings were given to the 2020 Accord, the three Civic models (Coupe, Sedan, and Hatchback), and CR-V. The Honda Insight was given the pinnacle Top Safety Pick+ Rating.
Each received the highest possible rating of “GOOD” in all six IIHS crashworthiness tests. Along with that, they each earned a “SUPERIOR ” rating for vehicle-to-vehicle frontal crash prevention thanks to standard Honda Sensing® driver-assistive and safety technology.
The 2020 CR-V and Civic join the Accord, Passport, and Insight in providing Honda Sensing® as standard on all trim levels. Honda Sensing® is now available or standard on every Honda model. All of these vehicles also benefit from Honda’s proprietary Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure. This body structure is designed to protect occupants in a variety of frontal collisions. Advanced restraint systems, including pretensioning front seat-belts, and front, side, knee and side-curtain airbags are also part of the protection design.
To earn the 2020 Top Safety Pick Award, a vehicle must earn “GOOD” crashworthiness ratings across all test modes. A top rated vehicle must also offer front crash prevention that earns “ADVANCED” or “SUPERIOR” rating in both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian testing. A top rated vehicle must also achieve “GOOD” or “ACCEPTABLE” ratings for available and standard headlights.
More Honda vehicles are expected to receive top safety ratings from IIHS ratings as the Institute completes more testing. On another note, every Honda model that has been fully evaluated in the NHTSA’s 2020 model year NCAP testing has received a 5-star Overall Vehicle Score.
