New Facility at Alabama Auto Plant for Accessory Packages
On April 11, 2023 American Honda Motor Co., Inc. (AHM) celebrated the opening of the $16 million, 66,000 square foot Post-Production Option (PPO) facility on campus at Honda’s Alabama Auto Plant (AAP).
The facility serves as a hub for the installation of a series of accessory option packages for vehicles produced at the Plant. This will allow the company to better serve its customers and provide more product options.
“Our customer-focused Honda accessories program represents an incredible effort by our highly engaged team of associates who believed in this new business area and had the drive to make it succeed.”
“The new PPO facility at our Alabama Auto Plant will enable us to better serve our Honda customers and provide them with the high-quality options they desire.”
(Susan McCormick, Department Head of Accessory Product Planning at AHM)
The PPO program began in late 2020. It began with installation of accessory packages for the redesigned 2021 Honda Ridgeline which included the Honda Performance Development package (HDP). The Utility, Function, and Function + packages were included as well.
At the new PPO facility there is potential to increase customization operations and expand offerings to include accessory packages on the 2023 Honda Pilot and Honda Pilot TrailSport. In the future Honda plans to offer installation of single-item accessories to dealers!
